Class Descriptions

Class descriptions

Aqua Creche  6 months to 18 months.
With parental assistance in the water, this class is an introduction to the pool environment through games with music and toys.

Aqua Play  18 months to 3 years.
With parental assistance in the water, the class is an introduction to water confidence exercises through play.

Aqua School  3 years to 5 years.
Without parental assistance, these classes are the child’s first step to independence, combining structured play and an introduction to swimming practices.

High Tides
The pupils will be taught a level of independence and aim towards unassisted movements through the water on their front and back. Pupil standard – Water confidence.  A visit to the pool prior to the commencement of lessons is recommended.

Rip Team
These classes will improve on basic front and back movements and continue to develop skills. Pupil standard – Pupils must be able to swim 5 metres confidently on their front and back.

Mighty Waves
These classes will continue stroke development and also introduce elements of water safety. Pupil standard – able to swim 10 metres on front and back and have an understanding of a variety of leg actions.

Water Jets
Pupils will concentrate on stroke improvement which leads to further distances being achieved efficiently.  Pupil standard – Pupils will be able to swim 25 metres using Frontcrawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke.

Surf Stars
A continuation of instruction in stroke development, competition turns and watermanship skills.  Pupil standard – Pupils must be able to swim 50 metres, 25 metres of which must be on the front and 25 metres on the back using recognised strokes.

The Swimmers
Pupils in these classes will be working on advanced stroke improvement with a bias towards competition starts and turns.  Pupil standard – Pupils must be able to swim 50 metres in each of Backstroke, Breaststroke and Frontcrawl and have a sound knowledge of Butterfly.

Swim Academy
Is for advanced swimmers who have completed level 6 (The Swimmers)

Rookies
Junior lifesaving for children between the age of 8 and 14 years.  Pupil standard – Able to swim confidently on front and back.  Must be able to submerge completely and be confident out of their depth.

NPLQ
A nationally recognised Lifeguard qualification for persons over the age of 16 years. 

It is particularly suitable for anyone wishing to persue a career in the leisure industry and is generally a pre-requisite for lifeguard positions within sports and leisure complexes.

Entry requirements – Good swimming ability and a good standard of general fitness.
